Alisson Becker has signed a one-year contract extension with Liverpool, tying him to the club until 2027.

The 33-year-old Brazilian goalkeeper was heavily linked with a move away from Liverpool towards the end of the season, with Juventus presenting favourable conditions for a three-year deal.

However, Alisson ultimately decided to stay put, and Liverpool will now begin to look for a long-term successor, with Giorgi Mamardashvili potentially having failed his audition after a disappointing season.

The Georgian goalkeeper played 20 times for the Reds in the 2025/26 season, winning only six occasions, leading to speculation that Liverpool will consider a different goalkeeper for the No1 spot.

Vitezslav Jaros, a 24-year-old Czechia international, has emerged as a potential candidate to take over as the new No1 goalkeeper, after enjoying a decent campaign on loan at Ajax before suffering a season-ending injury.

Jaros is not expected to be fit until the early part of 2027, but Liverpool values him highly, and he could be considered as the club's new No1 once Alisson moves on and Jaros has more game time under his belt.

The report claims that Jaros is under contract until 2028, which would give him plenty of time to stake a claim for a place, and he originally joined the Reds from Slavia Prague as a youth player nine years ago.

Andoni Iraola and Richard Hughes will be tasked with securing a new starting goalkeeper, and Jaros's recovery from injury will be crucial in determining his chances of becoming the new No1.

On loan at Ajax, Jaros was benefiting from a season of regular football before suffering a serious knee injury in February, which is expected to keep him out for most of 2026.

Only in the 2027 winter transfer window will he have the opportunity to weigh up his options again, providing rehab goes as planned.

If the second half of next season is successful, the academy graduate could start to come into contention to start, or command a significant transfer fee if he's moved on.
